FAQ

Weekly sessions have been identified throughout research as the most beneficial for children. Depending on the child, multiple sessions a week could be considered for a more intensive approach to therapy. Fortnightly sessions can be considered, but it is important to understand this will mean the progress we may see in therapy will generally be slower.

Absolutely. Sibling or peer therapeutic sessions can have a lot of value depending on the children involved; we can facilitate this as a group therapy session. Research shows these group sessions have a much higher impact if followed up weekly or fortnightly by an individual therapy session also.

2-12 years of age is the recommended range for child centred Play Therapy; however, some children older than 12 may benefit from Play Therapy. We also consider the child’s developmental age, not chronological.

Our sessions range from $120-190 (including GST) per session. We reserve some sessions weekly for families experiencing financial hardship or in crisis. If this is you, please contact us directly to discuss.

An invoice will be sent to your weekly via email; this is to be paid within 3-5 business days. Payment details are located at the bottom of the invoice.

If your child is an NDIS participant who is plan managed, your plan manager will receive the invoice and pay on your behalf.

If your child cannot make a therapy session you would still be required to pay 90% of the fee if it is within 48 hours of the session. We will send you a reminder via email or text within 48 hours of your session for you to confirm attendance.

If you can provide more than 48 hours’ notice that your child will be absent for a Play Therapy session, we would charge 50% of the fee to the bank account you provide.

Some families may wish to miss some sessions during school holidays etc; however, we recommend you are as consistent as possible with attending to continue supporting your child with therapy when you have changes in the routine in other areas of your life.

If the therapist needs to reschedule your appointment, no charges would be made.

Yes, you can leave, however we recommend having a few sessions first to ensure the child is comfortable and does not need sessions to end early. All parent contact information must be up to date and any medical conditions need to be disclosed and medical plans to be provided prior to therapy commencing for the child’s safety.

1-hour Play Therapy session (45-minute therapy session and a built-in 15 minutes to allow for transition in and out of playroom). Shorter sessions may be available depending on the age or needs of the child and can be discussed during your initial consultation session.

If a session ends early due to a child not settling into the playroom or because a child is dysregulated and not coping with the context you will still be required to pay for the session in full. However, we will do whatever we can to create a space your child feels safe; this may mean you stay in the room for some of the session to begin with- particularly if your child is 2-4 years of age.

According to the evidence we have surrounding Play Therapy thus far, it appears that most children move through the four stages of their therapeutic journey within a six-to-eight-month period- this is assuming they attend most or all of their sessions. Some children may reach the 4th stage of mastery within as little as three months though, depending on their experiences and the rate at which they are willing to work through this and it is also dependent on whether a child is engaged in intensive therapy (2-3 sessions a week) or just the standard 1 session.

Typically, a parent/guardian consultation is planned with child’s therapist every 6 weeks. However, these can be less or more regularly had depending on the child and the parent’s request- these can be had via phone or in person. We encourage parents/guardians not to ask questions about your child’s session in front of them or ask leading questions post-therapy. We want to protect their confidentiality, sense of self and allow them (and yourself as a parent) to trust the process. We want to avoid the child potentially dreading therapy because they feel compelled to respond in a certain way afterwards or worried about what they say in therapy.

We will be in contact within 48 hours of a referral submission to let you know if we have a space for your child.

Referrals can be made using the ‘referrals’ button on the homepage. We accept referrals from agencies and organisations on behalf of a family. A self-referral can also be made by completing the form with your own information and submitting for your own child.

Yes, there is free and accessible parking onsite.

I believe that every child should have access to early childhood support and be given opportunities wherever possible to be provided these services. For this reason, I reserve bookings to provide vulnerable families & children with play as a therapeutic intervention at no charge to the family. Contact me directly if you need this support and I will do my best to offer you a regular session.

Fee Schedule Consent Form - Agency Funded Services

Terms of engagement:

I have received a copy of the fee schedule for “Play Therapy with Millie” and consent to paying this fee on a weekly basis for the ongoing booking of this child

There is no contract where you are ‘locked-in’ to a certain time frame; however, we do ask where possible the family give at least 1 weeks’ notice if family will be terminating our services. If we feel we can no longer offer this child our services, we will advise you with as much notice as possible.

Some families engage for a short-term intervention (6-8 weeks) and others may use these services for several years. However, we do ask that you keep communication open around the length of time you think you will be engaged in therapy/support sessions if you know in advance. This supports us to communicate with the child during our sessions how many we have left to prepare them for change. Notice of ending therapy/services also allows us to advise families on our waitlist how long we think they may be waiting for a booking with us.

Cancellation:

I am aware and acknowledge that if the child is unable to make their session, I will need to inform the business as early as possible, or I will still be required to pay a fee. A text is sent to the parent/guardian mobile 24 hours in advance for you to confirm booking.

If the business is not informed 48 hours prior to the child’s session of an absence, you will be charged at the full rate of service.

Payment:

We require fees be paid as invoices are issues and we require 1 week of services to provided prior to commencing ongoing bookings with us. Payment of services are due within 5 days of receiving your invoice. Any queries about the fees or what is on your invoice please email: [email protected]
